DGN Senior Recognized for Local, Global Community Service

Barbara Budach, a Downers Grove North senior, is the 2012 recipient of the Woodridge Junior Women's Club scholarship.

Woodridge. Kenya. The Dominican Republic. 

Barbara Budach has made her mark in each. Budach, a senior, received the 2012 Woodridge Junior Women's Club scholarship. 

She currently serves as the creative partnership and fundraising chair for AFROCKA, a nonprofit raising funds and awareness for those in need in Africa. Its biggest fundraiser is an annual rock concert. AFROCKA's current focus is helping those affected by severe drought in East Africa.

Budach has completed several mission trips to the Dominican Republic, where she worked in medical clinics, held bible study, built churches and worked as a translator. 

During a two-week mission trip to Kenya, Budach volunteered her time to help area churches.

Back in the states, Budach has completed community service in school and for the Salvation Army and the West Suburban Humane Society. In addition to being involved with music and the youth group at her church and volunteering her time in the church nursery, Budach is a member of DGN's National Honor Society chapter. 

She was "unanimous favorite" for her scholastic excellence and passion for global and local community service, said Woodridge Junior Women's Club Member Mary Ann Frank at a lunch honoring Woodridge scholarship recipients.
