Downers Grove Kids to Learn Robotics at Sunday Workshop

All three of the "SparkTruck" workshops, hosted by Friends of the Gifted & Talented of Downers Grove and D99, are filled to capacity.

A group of Downers Grove kids ages 8-15 will be participating in a free robotics workshop hosted at North High School this Sunday, as part of the “SparkTruck” mobile education project founded by Stanford University students.

The SparkTruck, an “education build-mobile” which has been profiled in Wired magazine, comes to Downers Grove courtesy of Friends of the Gifted & Talented of Downers Grove (FRoG), the Village of Downers Grove and Community School District 99.

Three workshops will be held, two for kids 8-12 focusing on vibrobots, and one for kids 12-15 on Lego robotics.

“I am so excited to be able help bring SparkTruck and the emergent technologies that they teach about to Downers Grove area kids,” said FRoG representitive Kristi Kattapong in a press release.

“This is such a great opportunity for local kids to be exposed to technologies and creative ideas that they might not otherwise encounter until high school or college.”
