Downers Grove Students Recognized by National Achievement Scholarship Program

Students recognized for their achievements on the preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT)

Two Downers Grove high school students have been recognized by the National Achievement Scholarship Program, an academic competition that provides recognition for outstanding Black American high school students. 

North High senior Alijah Travascio-Green is among 1,600 who have been designated as a semifinalist in the program for his performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). 

He scored the top 3 percent of more than 160,000 Black American high school students who had requested consideration in the 2014 National Achievement Program, and will advance in the competition for scholarships.

“We are very proud of Alijah and his significant accomplishment,” North High Principal Scott Kasik said in a statement.

South High senior Mariah Copeland is among 3,100 “Outstanding Participants” in the National Achievement Scholarship Program who are being referred to U.S. colleges and universities for potential academic success.

She also scored in the top 3 percent of more than 160,000 Black American high school students who had requested consideration in the 2014 National Achievement Program.
