What is the primary reason you are running for this office?
I am running for re-election because I feel there is much work left to be done, and I feel I can contribute to the district and its students.
What will be your single most important priority if you get elected?
With these tough economic times, I hope to be able to keep our district on the cutting edge. We have to keep up with technology, keep improving our classroom offerings, and keep our buildings and infrastructure up to date.
What sets you apart from the other candidates?
I have been on the board for eight years. Before that, I was involved in District 58 when my oldest was in kindergarten and through all of their schooling. I have been involved with PTA in both District 58 and District 99. I was PTA council president for two years. I have also been on several district committees for Districts 58 and 99 before being elected to the District 99 School Board.
How long have you lived in your community and/or been active in local issues?
I have lived in Downers Grove for almost 25 years. I know that makes me a relative newbie, but I think I have given a lot to this community. My mother always told me that you should be involved and give back to the community that you live in.
What's your favorite thing about Community High School District 99?
Our students. We have the best students here in District 99. They have what it takes to be successful in what ever they choose to pursue. The thing that I enjoy most is the quarterly presentation of certificates to our students with outstanding achievements. I sometimes wonder when these students get time to sleep.
