Stroke or TBI: After the Injury

More than five million people in the United States live with the after-effects of brain injury. About 1.7 million people sustain new brain injuries each year. Brain injury is any damage to the brain affecting a person physically, emotionally or behaviorally. Brain injuries can happen at birth, as a result of a stroke, or from an illness or a trauma.
Significant disability, including paralysis, memory loss, speech difficulties, and emotional problems such as depression can be, and often is an ongoing issue after a traumatic brain injury or stroke.
