O'Neill Race Car Team Earns "Outstanding" Rating at Argonne

The Race Car Team competed in the Department of Energy and Argonne National Laboratory’s Electric Car Competition on April 14 at Case New Holland in Burr Ridge.

The event, which included teams from throughout the Chicago area, involved a design competition and a race competition. Both elements required students to use applied science and engineering skills to meet technical challenges comparable to those that scientists and engineers face to provide a lightweight, low-friction vehicle with efficient gearing, chassis integrity and robust performance. Developing a successful design required experimentation, teamwork and organization.

The team’s design documentation was awarded a rating of “outstanding,” and members already are planning ways to improve the team’s performance in the time trials at next year’s competition.

The O’Neill Middle School Race Car Team includes Jeremy Canfield, Tiffany Leung, Akila Shanmugham, Tommy Leinart and Zach Scheffel.
