Downers Grove was well-represented at the 2013 Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Sunday with 112 runners crossing the finish line, including a 74-year-old man who has run the event every year since its inception.
The top male finishers from Downers Grove were Michael Cozza (02:56:47), Will Bardoczi (02:57:34) and Michael Chico (03:01:39). The top female finishers from were Kathryn Krouse (03:31:55), Erin Zerth (03:33:01) and Maria Kasher (03:35:38).
Downers Grove resident Ron Williams, 74, also completed the race—his 36th. He is one of only eight individuals who have run every Chicago Marathon since its inception, according to the blog "Walk Jog Run."
Williams runs with Team in Training and raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
A record 39,115 runners cross the sun-splashed finish line in Grant Park on Sunday, according to Chicago Marathon officials.
Kenyan runner Dennis Kimetto won the marathon, setting a course record of 02:03:45—53 seconds faster than last year's winning time. Winning on the women's side was Kenyan Rita Jeptoo, who finished in 02:19:15, the fastest women's marathon time in the world this year.
“It was an incredible day at the 2013 Bank of America Chicago Marathon—one where the results from the course reflected the hard work and determination that was put in by the staff, the volunteers and our City of Chicago partners to make the event possible,” said Executive Race Director Carey Pinkowski in a statement.
