DG North's Olekanma and Diggs Commit to Toledo Football

Two Trojan defensive players will both become Toledo Rockets after their senior years.

A pair of Downers Grove North Trojans football players will remain on the same field after their senior years, as both have committed to play defense for the Toledo University Rockets, the Chicago Tribune and Scout.com report.

Linebacker Richard Olekanma and defensive end Vontae Diggs told the paper and site that they hadn't always planned to be recruited as a package, but it was definitely a bonus.

"We talked about it at first, but we never set out to go to the same school," Diggs told the Tribune. "But as the process went along, Toledo offered us and we both started to really like everything about the Rockets."

Olekanma, a Nigerian immigrant also scouted by Southern Illinois, according to Scout.com, said he was enthused by both the Rockets' coaching staff and the school's medical program.

"I am really excited, Toledo is a great school and program," he told the site. "I am really excited to be a part of it."

But first, he added, "expect us to ball out this season and hopefully bring home a state title... I am looking forward to just having a great year for the Trojans."
