DGS Takes 4th-Straight Boys Tennis Sectional Title

Downers Grove South took first in its IHSA sectional this weekend, while Downers Grove North took second.

qualified all six of its sectional players for state at its sectional meet Saturday, taking the sectional championship title for the fourth straight year. 

It was also the fourth year that DGS qualified all of its players for state. 

In singles competition, Senior Captain Joey Leto took on Tony Leto, little brother and freshman, in a "friendly family feud" 6-2, and 6-1.

In doubles, Senior Captain Connor Harmon and partner Junior Captain Cody Freischlag won a hotly contested doubles final over teammates Senior Captain Kiernan Cavanagh and Junior Jon Artus 7-6 (4), 6-2. 

This marked the first time that all four sectional spots in the finals were occupied by the Mustangs and the first time the school scored a perfect 36 points in the sectional meet. The team did so well, in fact, that DGS clinched the sectional title by the first of the two-day competition.

took second with 19 points, qualifying the team Burnham/Kisielius for doubles state competition.
