Downers Grove North Girls Swim and Dive Wins Sectional, Shatters Records

The Lady Trojans move on to the state meet this weekend at New Trier.

The Downers Grove North Lady Trojans are at it again. 

The swimming and dive team won their sectional meet with a score of 293 points, 100 points ahead of 2nd place finisher Benet Academy. 

DGN won every single event as they cruised to victory—shattering several pool and team records along the way.  The team next moves on to state meet at New Trier. Coach Judy Busse was also named Sectional Coach of the Year.

1 Meter Diving*

  • 1st: Emily Aument, 455.90 pts
  • 2nd: Elizabeth Aument, 434.35 pts

*Both girls broke the Frosh/Soph record for 11 dive totals. Both qualified for state, seeded 6th and 11th.  

200 Medley Relay       

  • 1st: Gabby Sims, Gabriele Serniute, Maddy Sims, Emily Albrecht      1:42.48*

*New pool record and new varsity record. Qualified for state, seeded 1st

200 Freestyle

  • 1st: Lindsay Mathys, 1:52.73. Qualified for state.
  • 5th: Natalie Costello, 1:59.35

200 IM      

  • 1st: Gabriele Serniute, 2:03.68*. Qualified for state. *New pool record breaking a record from 1996. Seeded 1st for state.
  • 11th: Ellie Arand, 2:19.78

50 Freestyle     

  • 1st: Emily Albrecht, 23.74. Qualified for state.
  • 2nd: Daria Wick, 24.04. Qualified for state.

100 Butterfly

  • 1st: Maddy Sims, 55.78. Qualified for state.
  • 2nd: Daria Wick, 56.76. Qualified for state.

100 Freestyle  

  • 1st: Gabby Sims, 51.19*. Qualified for state. Seeded 2nd.
*New pool record breaking a record from 1979. 

500 Freestyle

  • 1st: Lindsay Mathys, 5:03.41. Qualified for state. New Frosh/Soph record.
  • 11th: Natalie Costello, 5:26.84

200 Freestyle Relay

  • 1st: Emily Albrecht, Gabriele Serniute, Lindsay Mathys, Maddy Sims,      1:36.63. Qualified for state.
100 Backstroke
  • 1st: Gabby Sims, 54.98.  Qualified for state. Broke her own pool record from 2011. Seeded 1st.

100 Breaststroke

  • 1st: Gabriele Serniute, 1:05.21. Qualified for state. Broke pool record from 1984. 

400 Freestyle Relay       

  • 1st: Emily Albrecht, Lindsay Mathys, Maddy Sims, Gabby Sims, 3:28.45. Qualified for state. New pool record, breaking record from 2011. Seeded 1st at state.
