Downers Grove North, South Football Games Postponed Due to Storms

The Trojans and Mustangs will take the field Saturday after a line of strong storms hit the Chicago area Friday night.

Both Downers Grove football openers were postponed Friday night due to stormy weather.

The Trojans and Mustangs were set to take the field at 7:30 p.m. Friday—North High at Lockport Township and South High at home—but the games were canceled shortly before kickoff due to a line of severe thunderstorms passing through the area.

North High is now scheduled to play at 6 p.m. Saturday at Lockport Township, 1333 E. 7th St.

The South High varsity game will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday at home, 1436 Norfolk St. The JV game originally scheduled for Saturday has been canceled.

Friday was scheduled to be “Senior Night" for the Mustangs—an opportunity for South High to honor senior members of the football team, the cheer squad, the Fillies and the senior members of the Marching Mustangs. Those festivities will be rescheduled for a later date.

Downers Grove South finished the 2012 season with a 4-5 record. Downers Grove North finished the season 7-5, and earned a playoff berth for the first time since 2008.
