Downers Grove North Swim Coach Named Coach of the Year

Check out the latest awards racked up by Downers Grove North swim and dive, this time from the Illinois Swimming Association.

After an incredible year and the team's 2nd place finish at state in November, the Downers Grove North Trojans can add a few more accolades to the pile.

The Illinois Swimming Association named Judy Busse Sectional Swim Coach of the Year and High School Swim Coach of the Year. Tony Ciezadlo received Sectional Diving Coach of the Year honors, and Gabby Sims was named Senior Swimmer of the Year.

Downers Grove North finished the state meet just 3.5 points behind champion New Trier—with a total of 157 points. The team grabbed four state championship titles, and broke three pool records along the way. Gabby Sims set a record in the 100 backstroke; Gabby Sims, Gaby Serniute, Maddy Sims and Emily Albrecht set a pool record  in the 200 medley relay; and in the 400 Freestyle Relay, pool record set by Emily Albrecht, Lindsay Mathys, Maddy Sims and Gabby Sims. Gabby Sims won each of her events: the 100 free, 100 backstroke, 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay.

The placing wrapped an unforgettable season for the Lady Trojans, who also won their first-ever conference championship  and swept every event at their sectional meet.
