Downers Grove South Boys Volleyball Team Wins State Title

A trophy ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday in the South High cafeteria.

The Downers Grove South boys volleyball team made school history Saturday, capturing the program's first-ever state title.

The Mustangs (31-10) defeated Lincoln-Way North 25-18, 25-20 in the IHSA state championship match, held Saturday afternoon at Hoffman Estates.

Senior middle hitter Nick Timreck led the way for Downers Grove South, tallying 11 kills, two digs and three solo blocks. Junior outsider hitter Mike Schmitt added 10 kills and junior setter Jordan Pawlicki had 29 assists and six digs.

A trophy ceremony to honor the team has been planned for 11 a.m. Sunday, June 2, in the South High cafeteria. The team will formally present the championship trophy to the school. The public is welcome to attend.
