On paper, it looked like Downers Grove North (5–4) might not pull out a win against top-seeded—and undefeated—Whitney Young.
But the Trojans must not have gotten that memo.
With outstanding ground game from DGN, and a weak offensive showing from Whitney Young, North handed Whitney Young its first loss of the season, in a stunning first round playoff 28-0 upset.
DGN's four touchdowns were on the ground: two by quarterback Sebastian Calvino, and two long runs by Charles Creamer and Kyle Leto. Whitney Young struggled on offense, only able to step into Trojan territory three times throughout the game, according to High School Cube.
The Trojans move on to round 2, playing Wheaton Warrenville South next week.
In other area sports news, Downers-Grove South fell to Naperville Central, 36-0.
