Local Gymnast Earns National Medals

Michaela Burton spends 30 hours a week in the gym working on her routines.

O'Neill Middle School student Michaela Burton, 13, recently competed at the USA Gymnastics Level 9 Eastern National Championships in Worcester, MA, where she placed second in both vault and vault and floor, third in balance beam, and fifth in bars in the Junior 4 age group.

Her all-around score of 37.9 fell just .10 shy of first place. 

In her route to Nationals, Michaela placed first all-around at State with a personal best score of 38.425. She place first in vault and bars with a 9.75 and second in beam and floor. She also placed first in all-around at Regionals in Cleveland with first place finishes in vault and floor, second place in balance beam and sixth place in bars.

Michaela currently holds an eighth-place ranking on America’s Top 100 Level 9 All-Around Scores. However, her success does not come without a lot of hard work and dedication. She averages 30 hours in the gym each week to work on her routines, technique and conditioning. Michaela trains at Legacy Elite Gymnastics in Carol Stream.
