Roadrunners Advance in State Cup Tournament

U10, U12 and U15 boys teams will play in second round.

Following a wet April tournament schedule, the Roadrunner Soccer Club’s U10, U12, and U15 boys’ teams earned the right to advance to the second round of US Club Soccer’s Illinois State Cup tournament.

These teams advanced out of a three-game round robin tournament that was played throughout April. Winners of the second round will advance to the finals that are scheduled for June 18 and 19. In last year’s event, the Roadrunners’ U17 team advanced as champions of their age group, landing them an automatic birth at the National Championships in Virginia Beach, VA.

The Roadrunners’ U10 Select team earned the top points in its pool play bracket and is seeded first in the second round’s 12-team pool. The U10s defeated teams from Elgin, Romeoville and Oswego to advance, with combined game score results of 16-5. The U10 Select team is one of five Roadrunner teams at the U10 age group and is coached by John Hannan, the club’s director of coaching and USSFA-licensed coach.

The Roadrunners’ U12 Select team participated as the top-seeded team in a pool of 12 clubs and earned the opportunity to advance to the second round by defeating teams from Addison and Arlington Heights, but dropped a well-played match 1-0 against the division leader from Northbrook. Their combined game score results were 9-2. The U12 Select team is one of two Roadrunner teams at the U12 age group and also is coached by Hannan.

The Roadrunners’ U15 Select team entered the US Club State Cup in a pool of eight area clubs and earned the opportunity to advance to the second round by defeating Oak Brook Soccer Club 4-2 and Bolingbrook Raiders 1-0, and dropped a fast paced game against Inter FC by a score of 4-3. The U15 Select team is one of the Roadrunners’ three high school boys’ teams and is coached by Taip Beshiri, a USSF B licensed coach that has been with the club for 10 years.
