Three DGS Boys Tennis Players Earn All-State Honors

The Downers Grove South boys tennis team earned 11th overall at the IHSA state meet last week.

Three of the six boys tennis players who advanced to the IHSA state meet last week earned All-State Honors. 

In singles, Joey Leto (41-5), senior captain, won three main draw matches and captured his third All-State selection in as many years. On the doubles court, Cody Freischlag (41-6), junior captain, and his senior partner captain Connor Harmon (41-6) also won three main draw matches as well. It was the third All-State selection for Freischlag and second for Harmon.

All six players fought through a 128-player field in both singles and doubles.

The team finished 11th in the state as Junior Jon Artus (25-7), Senior Kiernan Cavanagh (27-14) and Freshman Tony Leto (21-7) all won one main draw match.

The conference and sectional champion Mustangs finished the historic season setting several milestones. They set the record for the most dual meets won in a single season with 23. Joey Leto broke the career record for wins with 163 and the team set a perfect score of 36 in the IHSA Sectional.
