National Honey Bee Day at Kline Creek Farm Saturday

Time to get in those last few fun days out with the kids before they head back to school.

Why not mix a little education with a field trip type event? On Saturday, Aug. 18, the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County’s Kline Creek Farm will celebrate National Honey Bee Day at the farm’s honey house. 

The Kline Creek Farm is an 1890s living-history farm located in West Chicago. Those who attend the event are invited to visit the farm’s honey house to learn how bees make honey and the process to get the honey from hive to homes.

Roughly 75 percent of the world’s flowering plants rely on insect and animal pollinators and about one-third of the food we eat would not exist without the help of bees. Along with access to the honey house, those who visit the farm will get to talk with the volunteer beekeepers and learn more about the important role bees play in agriculture. Participants will get to visit a new garden with plants that attract bees and will receive seeds to take home and plant. 

The National Honey Bee Day event will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18 at Kline Creek Farm. The farm is owned and operated by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County. It is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Monday and is located at 1N600 County Farm Rd.
