Who Makes the Best Burger on 67th? Mayor Tully Chose...

Mayor Martin Tully judged a hamburger cooking contest at a 67th Street block party Saturday.

Okay, so maybe it wasn't all of 67th Street, but four amateur chefs that live on 67th between Blackstone and Fairmount submitted their best burgers to be judged by Mayor Martin Tully during a block party on Saturday.

With the winner set to receive the one and only Spoony (to be handled with white gloves like the Stanley Cup) and the losers to receive cookbooks and the shame that comes with knowing one of your neighbors can cook a summer staple better than you can, the burgers were complex and unique.

They came stuffed, slathered with rubs, topped with grilled veggies and in the case of one entry, made from veal. In the end, for Tully, it came down to two ingredients: bacon and chipotle mayo. And as much as the mayor proclaimed his love for bacon, he couldn't get enough of the chipotle mayo, giving Sue Carroll (coincidentally one of the organizers of the block party and hamburger contest) the win.
