Downers Grove North Trojans vs. Hinsdale South Hornets

Last Season...
The Downers Grove North Trojans finished off the 2012 season with a record of 7 and 5. They started off the season strong, gaining their first win against the Lockport Porters at Carstens field, winning 27-7. The next week, the Trojans traveled to Cicero, where they saw similar success. The Trojans were able to defeat the Morton Mustangs, 31-6. After winning the season opener at home, the Trojans expected great things from the home crowd, and saw just that when they faced a tough opponent, the Oak Park River Forest Huskies. The Trojans fought hard in the game, and were able to pull out a win as the clock continued to wind down. The Trojans pulled that game away, with a final score of 16-14. With a 3-0 record, and an excited student population, the Trojans filled  the fan bus and set out to Lyons Township High School. Despite the great support from the DGN community and hard effort on the field, the Trojans just couldn't stop the Lions, and dropped the game, 31-0. With a slightly tarnished record, the Trojans held their heads up high as they came back home to take on their cross-town rival, Downers Grove South. With a great crowd on hand, the Trojans showed their fighting spirit, and won the game, 27-20. The next week, the 4-1 Trojans boarded the bus for Elmhurst and took on the York Dukes. The Trojans won that game 38-21, to put themselves in a prime playoff position within the West Suburban Conference. Unfortunately, for the Trojans, the next two of three games was against two of the best schools in the state, Glenbard West and Hinsdale Central. After losing against the Proviso West Panthers, 41-27, the Trojans went to Hinsdale Central, where they lost to the Red Devils by one point, 21-20. The next week, the Glenbard West hilltoppers shutout the Trojans, 26-0. With a 5-4 record, the Trojans soon entered the playoffs away from home against The Batavia Bulldogs. They managed to come on top with a stellar 38-26 lead and progress further into the IHSA Division 7A playoffs. The next week, the Trojans hit the road to travel to Thorton, they kept the chains moving, and beat the Wildcats 29-13 entering the Quarter finals. The season came to a tragic, yet victorious end as the Trojans lost by 2 points against the Benet Redwings with a final score of 26-24. Many Trojan fans had the hopes of seeing the Downers North Trojans come out as State Champs, like in 2004 however were proud to see their accomplishments up to the quarter finals.
Compared to last year, one of the biggest improvements in the team is their speed. The Trojans have the ability to get the ball in the right spot a lot quicker, moving the chains, and scoring the points.

What to expect of this upcoming game:
It is still too early in the season to be sure that Trojan success will be certain, however, looking at the game on paper- it looks like the The Trojans, ranked 49th in the state, will come on top of the Hornets, ranked 246th in the state. Trojans are entering the game after a 45-0 win against the Porters, while The Hornets lost their season opener to the Romeoville Spartans with a score of 29-32.

Keys to the game:
In order to come on top, the Trojans need to maintain their speed and David Edwards needs to get the ball in the right hands. The more the Trojans can maneuver their way through the Hornets' defensive line and keep the chains moving, the better. The Hornets need to be on the lookout for David Edwards, #8, who will be a a crucial player in the game. He is hard to predict, and pretty hard to get to his knees.

Dangerous players:
Trojans: David Edwards #8: 6'6 QB
Hornets: Josh King # 12, DL, 6'6

This game will be broadcasted live on WDGC 88.3 FM. Alex Duta and Shane Gustafson will have the call!
