The provides emergency support to local people having the greatest need in the surrounding communities of Downers Grove, and surrounding communities of Darien, Lisle, and Westmont. Volunteers are needed to help to drive clients to medical appointments, and to handle telephone requests (from your home) for answering calls for assistance.

FISH maintains a free food pantry and clothing closet that is open on Monday and Friday from 9 – 11:15 a.m. Emergency assistance is provided to approximately 500 people each and every month. The pantry is located at 4340 Prince Street in the lower level of the Downers Grove Township Building.

FISH is 100% non-profit, and100% volunteer - operating strictly through the generosity of the community with donations of food, clothing and financial assistance made by those who care about the well being of those in need. We function only through the time and effort put forth by 100’s of volunteers throughout the past 42 years, using no government funding or tax dollars.

FISH provides food and clothing, financial assistance for rent or mortgage, and car repair for those who qualify. We have volunteer drivers who provide transportation for medical services and our phone volunteers answer the messages. We also provide eyeglasses to elementary school children and senior citizens in need. These requests continue to grow as does the need for volunteers.

Our recruitment for additional volunteers is ongoing. Please consider coming to learn about our volunteer efforts and how you might contribute to benefit our community.
Materials and refreshments are provided courtesy of our Community Bank.
