Hunter’s Hope: Ways You Can Support Injured Boy’s Recovery

Community members can donate in several ways to help ease the medical costs for a Downers Grove boy struck by a car Feb. 26 in Darien.

Red bracelets supporting a eighth-grader’s recovery are now available to a wider audience.

Cozzi Corner Hot Dogs and Beef in Downers Grove will be selling the bands that say Hunter’s Hope for $1, as well as hosting a six-month long fundraiser to help the family pay medical costs.

The 14-year-old Downers Grove boy remains hospitalized after sustaining serious injuries when he was struck by a car Feb. 26 while crossing Beller Drive in Darien with his bike. The hospital is not releasing any information about his condition.

Last week the rubber bracelets were for sale only at Lakeview and Prairieview schools. In just that first week, . A Lakeview parent who wishes to remain anonymous launched the project.

"The community is going crazy for (the bracelets), which is just fantastic," the man said.

In addition to selling the bracelets, Cozzi Corner is helping the effort by donating 15 percent of sales to the fund from customers who present a Hope for Hunter flier. Copies of the flier can be found by clicking on the PDF box to the right. The fundraiser includes gift certificates and catering orders. It's scheduled to run through Sept. 30.

People who wish to donate directly to a fund supporting Hunter’s recovery can send a check to:
