Village of Downers Grove, Schools Close for Labor Day
Also this week: Downers Grove Fine Arts Festival, Week 2 of high school football and the park district's annual flea market.
Officially, the last day of summer is Sept. 21.
But with the kids back in school, Monday brings a sure sign that the dog days of summer are all but over: Labor Day is here.
On Monday, anticipate the following closings:
- Downers Grove Village Hall
- District 58 schools
- District 99 schools
- Downers Grove Public Library
- Downers Grove Post Office (920 Curtiss St.)

Downers Grove Council Meeting: The Downers Grove Village Council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Village Hall, 801 Burlington Ave. To submit opinions about this week's agenda, visit www.downers.us.
Football Games: Downers Grove North (1-0) will host Hinsdale South at 7:30 p.m. Friday. South High will take on host Proviso West at 7:30 p.m.
Downtown Downers Grove Market: The Downtown Downers Grove Market is held every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., through Oct. 19. The market, located in the Main Street Metra Station's south parking lot, features a variety of produce, fresh bread and pastries, coffees and other specialty foods. Park District Flea Market: The Downers Grove Park District will host more than 100 vendors at its annual outdoor market, scheduled Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hummer Park, 4833 Fairview Ave. For more information, visit www.dgparks.org.
Fine Arts Festival: The annual Downtown Downers Grove Fine Arts Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the intersection of Main Street and Burlington Avenue.
