<p>Responsible for providing fire and rescue response within a 13-square-mile area, the Downers Grove Fire Department handled 2,756 fire calls and 2,605 emergency calls in 2009. The department includes 70 sworn firefighter-paramedics under the leadership of Chief James G. Jackson Sr., Deputy Chief Robert Tutko and battalion chiefs Patrick Hardin, John Hardy and Dan Mejrech. The department also includes several unsworn personnel.</p>
<p>There are three fire stations in Downers Grove: Station 1 at 2560 Wisconsin Ave., Station 2 at 5420 Main St., Station 3 at 3900 Highland Ave., and Station 5 at 6701 Main St. </p> <p>Station 2 was replaced with a new 32,958-square-foot facility in 2008, which also serves as the department's headquarters. A public meeting room, which accommodates up to 50 people, is available. The department's ladder truck and other key equipment were relocated to the new station, which is at the center of Downers Grove,  in order to improve response time.</p> <p> </p>
