Lester School was named in honor of Fred Lester, a World War II Congressional Medal of Honor recipient who as a child played in fields where the school now stands. Built in 1956, it is the largest of District 58's 11 elementary schools. Principal Carin Novak and Assistant Principal Justin Sisul head a full-time teaching staff of 22. Lester boasts a PTA, an E-club, a homework club and other activities. Its mascot is the Lion. Lincoln Avenue, which runs along the north side of the school between Fairview Avenue and Cumnor Road, is restricted to eastbound one-way traffic from 8am to 9am and from 2pm to 3pm on school days.
