Under the leadership of Chief Robert Porter and deputy chiefs James Black and Kurt Bluder, the Downers Grove Police…More Department employs 67 sworn officers in its traffic, investigative and community oriented policing divisions and two non-sworn officers in its crime prevention unit. The department also is responsible for managing the Village Operation Center, which handles police and fire calls.
The DGPD is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and in 2009 was recognized as the top agency in the state for pedestrian and bike safety and second in the state among departments with 51 to 100 sworn officers for its traffic safety programs.
In 2008, the department responded to 24,634 calls including more than 2,000 traffic accidents.
