Indian Trail School is one of 11 District 58 elementary schools. It was built in 1967 and adjoins the district'sMore Administrative Service Center. It serves a student population of 400. Mrs. Robin Bruebach is the principal of Indian Trail, heading a staff of 14 classroom teachers and several other professional and support-staff members. Indian Trail has an active PTA and student council and also houses the Grove Children's Preschool Program. The school mascot is a stallion.
Hillcrest School

Home of the Hound Dogs, Hillcrest is one of the larger elementary schools in District 58, with 400 students. PaulaMore Thomas is the school's principal, heading a team of 18 full-time teachers. Hillcrest is one of seven district schools to receive a state Academic Excellence award for having at least 90 percent of students meeting or exceeding state standards in math and reading for three consecutive years. The school also boasts an active PTA.
Pierce Downer School

Named for the founder of Downers Grove, Pierce Downer School was built in 1952 for kindergarten through fourth gradeMore students. Today it serves nearly 400 students in grades K-6 under the leadership of Dr. Lisa Mondale, the school principal. The school has an active PTA and offers several extracurricular activities for students. Pierce Downer is one of seven district schools to receive the state Academic Excellence for ISAT performance. The U.S. Department of Education bestowed the Blue Ribbon Award for Academic Excellence on Pierce Downer in 2007.
O'Neill Middle School

Located in south Downers Grove, O'Neill is one of two District 58 middle schools. The school was built in 1957 and namedMore for Lottie O'Neill, the first female state representative in Illinois. The school serves 500 students in seventh and eighth grades with multiple course offerings including foreign languages, art, vocal and instrumental music and applied technology. Parents of students are active, raising thousands of dollars for school enrichment through the PTA's annual magazine sale.
Lester School

Lester School was named in honor of Fred Lester, a World War II Congressional Medal of Honor recipient who as a childMore played in fields where the school now stands. Built in 1956, it is the largest of District 58's 11 elementary schools. Principal Carin Novak and Assistant Principal Justin Sisul head a full-time teaching staff of 22. Lester boasts a PTA, an E-club, a homework club and other activities. Its mascot is the Lion. Lincoln Avenue, which runs along the north side of the school between Fairview Avenue and Cumnor Road, is restricted to eastbound one-way traffic from 8am to 9am and from 2pm to 3pm on school days.
