How Long is the ER Wait at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital?

Wait times at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove are higher than the national average. New Medicare database shows how hospitals across the Chicago area — and the rest of the nation — compare.

If you go to the emergency room at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, how long will it take before you see a health-care professional? The federal government says 47 minutes on average. That's worse than both the state (33) and national average (30), according to a new database causing some hospital officials nationwide to cringe.  Key measures of ER efficiency have been posted from hospitals taking part across the country, according to a report by Cheryl Clark, now senior quality editor for HealthLeaders Media. “With precious little fanfare, Uncle Sam...rolled out a big, fat database with seven measures comparing a service that many people — healthcare providers and patients alike — consider the most critical any hospital can provide,” …

This article is misleading. You are greeted by an emergency room nurse beside registration staff as you enter the emergency room door. If arriving by ambulance your care is transferred to an emergency room nurse at bedside. As stated also the hospital is the only level one trauma center in the county, which puts focus on patients literally fighting for their lives over the less emergent. All …   more ›

Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital Offers Tips for Avoiding Frostbite in Freezing Temps

Doctors recommend dressing in layers and keeping dry as temperatures dip below freezing across the Chicago area.

Although the Chicago area has been experiencing a mild winter so far, it’s still possible to get frostbite from prolonged exposure to below-freezing temperatures. Frostbite occurs when the skin and body tissue are exposed to cold temperatures for a prolonged period of time. Wet skin or clothing, combined with wind, accelerate the injury process. People with diabetes or peripheral vascular disease are at a higher risk for developing this condition. Look for these symptoms: “Frostbite progresses in stages just like a thermal burn, so numbness appears before deeper injury and should be a signal to take corrective action, such as seeking warm shelter,” said Dr. George Geis, emergency physician on staff at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital and …
