Barnett, Olsen, Hosé Elected to Downers Grove Council
With all precincts reporting, incumbent Bob Barnett and newcomers David Olsen and Greg Hosé were the top vote-getters Tuesday, unseating longtime Commissioner Marilyn Schnell.
With all precincts reporting, incumbent Bob Barnett and newcomers David Olsen and Greg Hosé have been elected to the Downers Grove Village Council. Barnett, Olsen and Hosé secured the most votes in Tuesday's election, according to unofficial results from the DuPage County Election Commission. They beat out longtime commissioner Marilyn Schnell and challengers Susan Walaszek and Don Jankowski. Olsen was the top vote-getter with 2,765 (20.5 percent), followed by Barnett with 2,753 (20.4 percent) and Hosé with 2,573 (19 percent). Schnell came in fourth with 2,288 votes. Commissioner William Waldack announced in November that he would be stepping down from the council in May. Tuesday marked the end of an era for Schnell, who has served on the …

Unfortunately, that's a problem for a LOT of suburban communities in the collar counties. Somehow we just keep adding rules and more rules in some odd attempt at trying to create more order. All it does is create more chaos as people try to get around onerous rules. I would like to see a growing "less government, more results" movement in each of the suburban areas. more ›

The chickens come home to roost. After gutting storm water management for years, you've stuck yourselves with this problem. Tax or utility, it costs money to keep the drainage systems functioning in DG, and your short sighted cost cutting in the 1990s has set up Downers Grove for flooding far worse than the 1987 floods. more ›

Downers Grove Council Hopefuls Make Their Case at Candidate Forum
The six candidates vying for village council debated everything from economic development and human services, to controversial issues like backyard chickens and the storm water utility.
Two incumbents and four challengers in the race for Downers Grove village council squared off last week in a forum hosted by the League of Women Voters. The forum, held March 26 at Downers Grove Village Hall, gave each of the candidates an opportunity to introduce themselves to voters and explain their positions on a number of key issues, including economic development, storm water management and human services. Incumbents Bob Barnett and Marilyn Schnell are seeking re-election to a second and sixth term, respectively. The four challengers—David S. I met Barnett and Hose and liked what they had to say. Plus Barnett has been more than fair and works hard as a Trustee/Council member. Hose has already served our village on the Environmental Commission and Plan Commission for the past 5 years. Based on that dedication and commitment to our village he deserved our votes. No one ever spoke with me about Olsen but there were enough mailers for him… more ›
