Downers Grove Man Pleads Guilty to Denburn Woods Burglary: Court Watch

Patch catches you up on some of DuPage County's high-profile court cases.

The following are recent developments in notable DuPage County court cases: Downers Grove: A Downers Grove man has pleaded guilty to a burglary charge stemming from 2011 break-ins in Denburn Woods. However, Andrew Walczak's sentence won't be settled until the judge and attorneys in the case learn how he performs during his time in the county's drug court program, according to court documents. Walczak, 20, admitted to one count of burglary during a Sept. 5 hearing. He was arrested in July 2011 after a manhunt shut down the neighborhood after police received a report of a man with a gun, who apparently fled into the woods after trying to break into parked cars. Update: Police Arrest Denburn Woods Burglary Suspect

19-year-old arrested over the weekend is currently on probation for felony weapons charge.

Downers Grove Police arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with the Denburn Woods burglary attempts. Over the weekend Downers Police arrested Andrew Walczak, 1443 Maple Avenue, in connection with those crimes. When police searches Walczak’s home they located a a pellet rifle and items reportedly stolen in the Denburn Woods burglaries. Walczak has been charged with one count of burglary. He is being held at the DuPage County Jail on a $75,000 bond. This is not Walczak's first run-in with the law. Sgt. Dave Bormann of the Downers Grove Police Department said Walczak was arrested for criminal trespass to a motor vehicle as well as a DUI. Walczak was also convicted for felony weapons charges, he said. Walczak was given 30 months probation …

It will be interesting to see if the various vandalism, theft and other nonsense stops in this area now that our 19 year old career criminal is in the pokey. It always surprised me that this area was so hard hit by random crime, but now that we know this fella lived along the edge of the neighborhood, I can't help but think we had a 1 man crime spree going on.
