Mayor Martin Tully unveiled a new logo for businesses, non-profits and governmental bodies that touts Downers Grove's ranking in Forbes Magazine's "Top 10 Friendliest Towns in America."
Downers Grove has launched a new campaign to promote its recent recognition as one of the "friendliest towns in America." Mayor Martin Tully unveiled a new logo during his State of the Village address Tuesday night that promotes last year's Forbes Magazine article that ranked Downers Grove among "America's Friendliest Towns." The logo was a joint venture by the village, Downers Grove Park District,the Downtown Management Corporation and the Downers Grove Economic Development Corporation. Six winners were named in the corporation's fourth annual Gingerbread Contest out of 23 participants.
Six winners have been named in the Downers Grove Downtown Management Corporation's fourth annual Gingerbread Contest. Voting for the contest was held during the corporation's Gingerbread Festival, held Nov. 23-25 in downtown Downers Grove. More than 600 votes were cast, officials said. Of the contest's 23 participants, Viewers' Choice and Elves' Choice winners were named in three categories: Family/Individual/Children, Professional and Culinary Student. The winners each received $50 in downtown Downers Grove gift certificates. All gingerbread houses will remain on display through Saturday, Dec. 22. The Downers Grove Downtown Management Corporation is offering activities, events Nov. 23-25 as part of the second annual Gingerbread Festival and Small Business Saturday.
It’s coming: Black Friday, the day big-box stores count on to bring in customers in droves and help them end the year with a profit. But what about the little guy? Mom and pop businesses will get their chance to shine on Small Business Saturday, which is on Nov. 24. The date coincides with the Downers Grove Downtown Management Corporation’s second annual Candlelight Christmas, a family friendly event that offers holiday-themed fun for the kids, plus plenty of opportunities for grown-ups to support local businesses. Downers Grove’s Summer Nights Classic Car Show will go to the dogs—in a fun way—Aug. 31, as the final show of the season takes a different twist. The public that strolls downtown Main Street on summer Friday nights admiring classic cars and enjoying live music will show their love for their pets that night starting at 6 p.m. This event, which will recognize Downers Grove as a pet-friendly community, celebrates the love and compassion people share for their pets. Pet owner are encouraged to enter their domesticated animals in a contest that will be judged on originality, creativity, presentation, emotional appeal, costumes (if applicable) and a large dose of cuteness. We only visit Downers Grove because our daughter and her family live there. However, if we were to move, it would be an ideal place for us to live. Our kids are so happy there because of the things mentioned--festivals, shopping, restaurants, great schools, and larger shopping areas nearby if they can't find what they need in town.
