Two years after the project was first announced, production is finally moving forward on the film adaptation of the novel Downers Grove. Filming will begin in Los Angles this summer on The Curse of Downers Grove, which tells the story of a high school senior in Downers Grove, IL, who must escape a death curse, according to a Variety report. Derick Martini, who directed the indie film Hick, is helming the script he co-wrote with Bret Easton Ellis, author of the violent novel American Psycho. The script is based on the 1999 novel Downers Grove by Michael Hornburg. The thriller will star Lucas Till, of X-Men: First Class, and Aimee Teegarden of Friday Night Lights. Coccio has previously directed three films, including Zero Day and The Beginner. Lisa Stach should know that Michael Hornburg's grandparents, RIP, lived in Downers Grove since the 1930s...and there are many DG landmarks, historical references, people, tradition (beer drinking?), and yes flora and fauna in the novel...perhaps she is a newcomer but there was a time when the Tivoli Lanes, the Burlington Northern tracks, high schools, Denburn Woods, Maple Avenue, the Shell …   more ›

This movie just keeps sounding better and better. Now that the big name actors have all dropped out (Hayden Panettiere, Nikki Reed and Rebecca De Mornay), this movie should really draw the crowds. I read the book because it was set in DG, but I couldn't even finish it because it was so bad. If they don't change the name of the movie, maybe we could change the name of our city.   more ›
