Purse, Credit Cards, Electrical Boxes Stolen During Downers Grove Home Burglaries

Downers Grove police reports, Jan. 9-20.

MONDAY, JAN. 21 A home in the 100 block of 2nd Street was burglarized sometime between 9 p.m. on Jan. 20 and 4:30 a.m. on Jan. 21, police said. The victim, an 87-year-old woman, told police she found her back door cracked open, with glass on the floor. She also noted that she couldn't find her purse, police said. Nothing inside the home was disturbed, but the woman's purse was missing from the kitchen counter, according to reports. The purse contained her wallet, checkbook, credit cards, driver's license, $130 cash, and a prescription pill bottle, police said. A home under construction in the 5300 block of Lyman Avenue was burglarized sometime between 3 p.m on Jan. 18 and 7 a.m. on Jan. 21, police said.  A total of 150 electrical boxes and…

Drug Possession, Gang Graffiti, Retail Theft: Police Blotter

Downers Grove police reports, Dec. 25-30.

SUNDAY, DEC. 30 Joseph L. Wagner, 20, of the 5900 block of Elm Street in Lisle, was arrested around 12:42 p.m. at Jewel-Osco, 1148 Ogden Ave., police said.  Wagner was being held on the ground in the store parking lot when officers arrived on scene, police said. A store manager said Wagner stole items from the liquor department, then ran away when employees tried to stop him, according to reports. When Wagner was stopped in the parking lot, employees recovered a bottle of Grey Goose vodka and a bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey from inside his pants, police said. A second bottle of Grey Goose vodka fell from his pants and broke on the floor when he tried to run, police said. Wagner was taken into custody by Downers Grove police and charged …

Car Stolen During Lotto Purchase, Disorderly Conduct at Trader Joe's: Police Blotter

Downers Grove police reports, Dec. 19-21.

SATURDAY, DEC. 22 A 2002 Ford Explorer was stolen from a gas station in the 2200 block of Ogden Avenue around 9:35 p.m., police said.  The car owner told police he left his keys in the vehicle with the engine running while he went inside the gas station to purchase a lottery ticket, according to reports.  The man said he was inside for approximately five minutes when he saw someone driving away with his vehicle, police said. A 2003 Chevrolet vehicle was stolen from a parking lot in the 1500 block of Butterfield Road around 1:30 p.m., police said. The car owner told police she went into a store shortly after 1 p.m., and was unable to find her car when she returned to the parking lot, according to reports. The vehicle is presumed stolen. …

DUI, Retail Theft, Drug Arrests: Police Blotter

SATURDAY, NOV. 17 Melissa E. Hoff, 18, of the 1200 block of Sunset Drive in Holiday Hills, was arrested around 2:57 a.m. in the 7400 block of Lemont Road, police said. Police said they observed "suspicious vehicles" in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant, prompting them to confront the drivers. As police approached, they detected a "strong odor" of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, the report states. Police recovered drug equipment from the car, the report states. Police: Downers Grove Duo Caught Driving Stolen Car after Evading Roadside Check

Vidmantas Karla, 45, and Virginijus Karla, 25, were arrested early Sunday morning by Lemont police on charges of felony vehicle theft conspiracy.

Two Downers Grove men are facing felony vehicle theft charges after being caught driving a stolen vehicle in Lemont, police said. Vidmantas Karla, 45, and Virginijus Karla, 25, both of the 1100 block of Woodcrest Lane, were arrested around 2 a.m. in the 13600 block of Archer Avenue in Homer Glen, police said. Lemont Police Detective Aras Jonakis said the department was conducting a roadside safety check in the 13400 block of Archer Avenue when a car driven by Virginijus Karla approached. Upon pulling into the checkpoint, the car made a sudden U-turn and drove away from the scene, Jonakis said. WEDNESDAY, AUG. 8 Matthew Conness, 19, of the 1800 block of Grant Street in Downers Grove, was arrested around 2:15 a.m. on the 4400 block of Lee Avenue, Downers Grove police said. An officer said he saw three male teenagers in a car parked on Lee. Conness, the middle passenger, bent over and began moving something around near the floor of the car, police said. He continued to move around even after the officer said he told him to stop. Conness stopped when the officer drew a firearm, according to the report. The officer told him to get out of the car and said he saw a backpack and a small black bag at Conness’ feet. The officer said he searched the other two passengers and didn’t find any contraband. TUESDAY, AUG. 7 Someone broke the driver’s side mirror on a car parked on the 400 block of Prairie Avenue between 5:40 a.m. and 8 a.m., Downers Grove police said. The mirror was worth about $250. SUNDAY, AUG. 5 James Langone, 57, of the 900 block of Addison, was arrested around 2:31 p.m. at Fry’s Electronics, 3300 Finley Rd., police said. Store security told police Langone took a Blu-ray movie out of its case and put it in his jeans’ back right pocket. Langone went into the bathroom, and when he came out police said he opened another Blu-ray case and put the disc into the same pocket.
