'Cocomero' Frozen Yogurt Shop Opens in Downtown Downers Grove

The long-awaited downtown shop opened quietly Wednesday at 5150 Main St.

Downtown Downers Grove just got a little sweeter. Cocomero, a frozen yogurt and smoothie shop, opened quietly Wednesday at 5150 Main St., about four months after the business was first announced. It took over the space formerly occupied by Knitche, which moved across the street this summer.  "We're excited to finally open our Downers Grove location," owner Kevan Lee said. "Cocomero has been very popular in other communities, so we hope people like it here, too." Lee and his brother-in-law opened the first Cocomero in Champaign in 2009. Lee's brother-in-law opened another location this summer in Elmhurst. Cocomero—an Italian word for watermelon that Lee's brother-in-law found on the Internet—carries frozen yogurt in about a dozen flavors, …

New Frozen Yogurt Shop 'Cocomero' to Open Downtown

Cocomero frozen yogurt hopes to open in little more than a month.

When 37-year-old Kevan Lee moved to Hoffman Estates in 2000 from Seoul, South Korea, frozen yogurt wasn't exactly on the marketing major's radar. Now, he's getting ready to open his second frozen yogurt location in Downers Grove. Lee is hoping to open Cocomero—an Italian word for watermelon that Lee's brother-in-law found on the Internet and liked the sound of—in August, and the store will occupy the space Knitche previously did as Knitche is moving across the street. It will be the second Cocomero location, with the first opening in Champaign in 2009. Lee opened that location with his brother-in-law but is opening the Downers Grove location on his own. Cocomero will feature frozen yogurt in about 12 flavors with roughly 30 toppings …
