Grocer Responds to Demand for Gluten-Free Food
The Lemon Tree offers a variety of options for customers with the autoimmune deficiency.
Responding to a community demand, Lemon Tree Grocer is now offering more gluten-free products. Shaun Black, manager of the specialty grocery store, said the company offers gluten-free food in many of its departments. Gluten is a protein present in the grains of wheat, rye and barley. Commercial oats are always cross-contaminated with wheat. With a rise in reported gluten allergies across the United States, more and more customers are demanding gluten-free products, Black said. The increase in the autoimmune disorder that prevents digestion of products made with glutens was something the folks at Lemon Tree took into consideration when they searched for food vendors.
