The Chicago Tribune reports that Herrick Middle School teacher Kimberly A. Mason resigned in August after nude or semi-nude photos were found on her school computer and police began investigating whether she shared them with an underage boy.

A Downers Grove middle school teacher resigned and relinquished her teaching credentials last year after explicit photos were found on her computer and authorities investigated whether those photos were shared with an underage boy, according to a Chicago Tribune report. Kimberly A. Mason, a former language arts at Herrick Middle School, resigned in August after Grade School District 58 officials accused her of keeping nude or semi-nude photos of herself on her school computer, the Tribune reports. A police report filed Aug. 10 in Glendale Heights by Mason's husband prompted an investigation by the DuPage County Children's Center, Downers Grove police and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, according to the Tribune. …

Herrick Middle School Brings Dr. Suess Stories to Life in 'Suessical Jr.'

Students will perform the musical "Suessical Jr." Thursday, Friday and Sunday.

Students from Herrick Middle School in Downers Grove will bring the stories of Dr. Seuss to life this week with performances of the musical "Seussical Jr." Performances will be held at the school, 4335 Middaugh Ave., at 7:30 p.m. both Thursday and Friday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $6 and available by calling Herrick at 630-719-5810. "Seussical Jr." is based on several Dr. Seuss stories, but the overall plot is borrowed from Horton Hears a Who!, focusing on Horton the Elephant's attempts to protect the people of Who-ville who live in a tiny speck of dust. The "Cat in the Hat" will serve as the show's host and emcee, school officials said. District 58 Students Participate in State Music Festival

Nineteen students from Herrick and O'Neill middle schools in Downers Grove were selected to participate in the annual Illinois Music Educators Association Festival.

Nineteen students from Downers Grove School District 58 were selected to perform last week at the annual Illinois Music Educators Association District 1 Music Festival. Students from Herrick and O'Neill middle schools performed Saturday at Riverside-Brookfield High School alongside students from across the southwest Chicago metropolitan area. The Festival Band, Orchestra and Chorus presented a public Festival Finale Concert on Saturday, Nov. 3. The IMEA Jazz Festival will take place Saturday, Nov. 10, at Lincoln-Way Central High School in New Lenox. Inspired by Rachel's Challenge, a nationwide program that champions a "culture of kindness," Herrick and O'Neill middle schools inDowners Grove Grade School District 58 have started "Friends of Rachel" clubs to tackle issues with bullying, self-esteem and exclusion. District 58 Middle Schools to Participate in Rachel's Challenge

The program, founded in memory of Columbine High School shooting victim Rachel Joy Scott, will teach students to combat bullying through kindness and compassion.

Rachel’s Challenge, founded in memory of Columbine High School shooting victim Rachel Joy Scott, has reached more than 18 million people nationwide since its inception. Now, that number will include hundreds of students in Downers Grove.  Both middle schools in District 58, Herrick and O’Neill, are starting Friends of Rachel (FOR) Clubs this year, and are teaming up to host a series of kick-off events on Wednesday, Oct. 24. This will include a joint training of 50 students from each school who will comprise the Friends of Rachel core leadership group; assemblies at both schools; and a community workshop at 7 p.m., during which attendees will have the chance to hear about the Rachel’s Challenge program and how it will be implemented at …

The foundation will hold an open house from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4, at Herrick Middle School, 4435 Middaugh Ave.

The Education Foundation of Downers Grove Grade School District 58 will celebrate its 10th anniversary Thursday with a community open house. The event will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Herrick Middle School, 4435 Middaugh Ave., and is open to the public. There will be a brief presentation on the foundation’s history, mission, activities and goals at 7 p.m. Foundation President Jay Stocki said the purpose of the open house is both to celebrate the organization's 10th anniversary and teach the community about what they do. Jill Henry, an eighth-grade science teacher at Herrick Middle School, was one of just 185 educators chosen to participate in "Educators @ Space Camp" in Huntsville, AL, in June.

Herrick science teacher Jill Henry had an out-of-this-world experience this summer. As one of just 185 educators chosen from around the world to attend this year’s Honeywell-sponsored "Educators @ Space Camp" program in Huntsville, AL, in June, Henry got to participate in a variety of hands-on educational experiences. These included two simulated shuttle missions; building and launching model rockets; going down a 30-foot zipline; learning about advances in biotechnology and extracting DNA from fruit; participating in team-building activities; and tackling several engineering-type projects that can be used in the classroom. “The experience was one of the most memorable professional development experiences of my career so far.
