Agency’s new online service helps customers contest violations for which they are not responsible, usually when a vehicle is stolen or sold, officials said.

Vehicle owners who seek to contest tollway violations and fines for which they believe they are not responsible will no longer have to call customer service or travel to the Illinois Tollway headquarters in Downers Grove, officials announced. The Illinois Tollway launched Monday a new online service for contesting violations for which drivers are not responsible, usually in situations where vehicles have been sold or stolen prior to the violation date. Now, customers can contest toll violations at illinoistollway.com, where they will download a form, attach the required documentation and return it to the Tollway for review. Illinois Tollway to Pursue Worst Scofflaws in Court

The Tollway announced Thursday that it will begin filing lawsuits against chronic toll violators in order to recover more than $300 million in unpaid tolls and initial fines.

Unpaid tolls and fines could soon catch up with the Illinois Tollway's most frequent violators. Tollway officials announced Thursday plans to file lawsuits against its worst violators in an effort to recoup more than $300 million in unpaid tolls and fines. The agency plans to file its first administrative judgments in circuit court Friday. “We are sending a clear and strong message to these chronic violators who use the Tollway regularly without paying: ‘Your time is up,’” Illinois Tollway Executive Director Kristi Lafleur said in a press release.  “Anything less would be unfair to the 98 percent of Tollway customers who pay their tolls on time." Up to this point, the Tollway has mailed its chronic violators at least five notices, called …

Tollway Traffic Expected to be Up for Memorial Day Weekend

Be sure to observe the 45-mph speed limit in all construction zones, whether or not workers are present. Otherwise, you could be ticketed a minimum of $375 for speeding in a work zone.

If your Memorial Day plans include a road trip via the tollway, you will have plenty of company. The Illinois Tollway is expecting approximately 7 million vehicles will travel the Tollway system this Memorial Day holiday from Friday, May 25, through Tuesday, May 29. The Tollway expects the heaviest travel on Friday, May 25, when nearly 1.6 million vehicles are projected to be on the road. On an average day, about 1.4 million vehicles use the Tollway. Tollway officials, in a prepared news release, stress the need to drive safely in construction work zones throughout the Illinois Tollway system. The Tollway is restricting construction activity and suspending all temporary construction lane closures over the holiday weekend. “While there is a…

My comment is this - the work zone signs are up 24/7 but the work is only during a limited part of that time. Why should we be forced to "go slow" when there is absolutely nothing going on? Sure, anyone could argue a point to their cause but the fact is when the reason for a restriction is ABSOLUTELY not present then why is there a restriction?   more ›

Tollway Wants $2 Million Corporate Backing for Roadside Aid Program

A corporation can get its logo and name on emergency trucks, signs, uniforms and more.

If you or someone you know has ever been stranded on the Illinois Tollway, the tollway assistance truck was a welcome sight. The next time you see the truck, it may be sporting a corporate name. A total of 13 trucks are part of the Highway Emergency Lane Patrol (H.E.L.P.) Program. They are driven over the 286-mile tollway system, and provide an array of services including changing flat tires, charging dead batteries, adding coolant and fuel, assisting with incidents and arranging for tows. The program costs the Tollway about $2 million annually, and officials want to cover the costs with corporate sponsorship. So the Illinois Tollway has issued an invitation for bid (IFB) to select a sponsor to foot the bill. “We are continually looking …
