The forum will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Village Hall, 801 Burlington Ave. Six candidates are running for three seats on the Downers Grove Council—incumbents Bob Barnett and Marilyn Schnell and newcomers Susan Walaszek, David S. With heavy snow and hazardous driving conditions gripping the Chicago area Tuesday, officials opted to postpone the public forum for Downers Grove school board candidates. The Community High School District 99 candidate forum—hosted by the League of Women Voters of Downers Grove, Woodridge and Lisle—was scheduled for Tuesday night at Village Hall, but was canceled around 5 p.m. due to the snowstorm. "We've heard from two of the candidates and know they can't make it, so we're going to wait until everyone can be there and we can have a better crowd," said Hilary Denk, co-president of the League of Women Voters in Downers Grove. The League of Women Voters of Downers Grove/Woodridge/Lisle will host a free movie screening and discussion Saturday on the topic of women's suffrage. Iron-Jawed Angels will play at 9:30 a.m. at the Downers Grove Public Library, 1050 Curtiss St. The award-winning film tells the story of a group of young women who put their lives on the line in 1920 to fight for women's right to vote, according to League officials. Stars include Hilary Swank, Frances O'Connor, Angelica Huston, Julia Ormond and Patrick Dempsey. Light refreshments will be served, and a brief discussion will be held after the movie.
