Letter: Bill Would Allow Counties to Cut 'Wasteful and Redundant' Layers of Government

DuPage County Chairman Dan Cronin writes about how Senate Bill 494 would allow county leaders to eliminate "wasteful and redundant" layers of government.

May 6, 2013 Dear Editor, Illinois’ 7,000 units of government have created multiple layers of inefficiency that place an unnecessary financial burden on taxpayers. These 24 agencies account for nearly $300 …

Patch accepts and publishes letters to the editor emailed to Local Editor Amanda Luevano at amanda@patch.com, or sent as a message through the Patch Facebook page. Please note in subject lines the message is a Letter to the Editor. ------------ President Obama has repeatedly campaigned on a message of hope and change, promising to reform the way Washington, D.C.  operates. I'm disappointed that instead of striving for those ideals, our President chooses to travel the country blaming the other party for our country's issues, rather than working with everyone in Congress to help strive for bipartisan solutions to our nation's problems, the foremost being our budget.   Since 2008, I have often heard the President, both on and off the campaign…

Frankly, no. Questions to put to voters are items such as raising taxes or issuing bonds, whether a town should be dry, or term limits. Whether or not people can own pet chickens and how many is an issue for elected officials. Somehow, if this winds up on the ballot as a referendum, I could anyone from David Letterman to Bill O'Reilly talking about it. That isn't the kind of publicity that DG …   more ›

Just something to consider. In watching local television, I've seen a lot of ads in the Biggert/Foster race, the Dold/Schneider race, and the Walsh/Duckworth race. I haven't seen one ad for Roskam or Coolidge. That probably means that both Congressional campaign committees of both parties, as well as the super PACs see this race as non-compeititve and not worth spending any money.   more ›
