From the Village of Downers Grove website: The Downers Grove Police Department holds this annual memorial service during National Law Enforcement Week to remember fallen officers, including the only Downers Grove officer to die in the line of duty, Officer Richard J. Barth. The ceremony will be held on Monday, May 14, 2012, at 1:00 p.m., at Patriots Park, 55th St. and Grand Ave., Downers Grove. In a cooperative effort between the Downers Grove Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #73, the Village of Downers Grove, and the Downers Grove Park District, the Richard J. Beloved son Jim and Laurie Deegan, cherished brother of Emmet and Bridget Deegan; dear grandson of John "Duke" and Ellen Slack of Naperville. He will be missed by his many aunts and uncles and dozens of cousins in California, Colorado, Illinois, Michigan and Minnesota.
