The Downers Grove Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday to celebrate one of the village's newest businesses, Evelyn Jane Boutique.

Last summer, before she was certain she wanted to open her shop, Evelyn Jane Boutique, Amy Brown began participating in French Markets around the area, bringing artisan made products to shoppers. She built connections with local artisans, learned what customers liked and in the process realized opening her own shop was the next logical step. “It was a great test for me for learning the ropes and buying pieces from artisans, which is not like buying wholesale, it’s a little more free form. It was really eye opening and a good experience,” she said. A new grocery store will open its doors Friday in Downers Grove. Shop and Save Market will celebrate its grand opening at 7241 Lemont Road, the former location of Michael's Fresh Market and Dominick's. A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. The 45,000-square-foot Downers Grove store is the sixth Shop and Save location in the Chicago area; other stores are located in Niles, Des Plaines, Schaumburg, Bridgeview and Chicago. Global Pump Company Breaks Ground on Downers Grove Headquarters

Executives from Grundfos were joined by Gov. Pat Quinn, Downers Grove Mayor Martin Tully and other elected officials Tuesday for the groundbreaking of their new North American Headquarters at 2001 Butterfield Road.

Grundfos, one of the world's leading manufacturers of water pumps, broke ground on its new North American headquarters in Downers Grove on Tuesday. The Denmark-based company, which employs 20,000 people in 20 countries, is relocatng from Olathe, KS, to the Esplanade office building, located at 2001 Butterfield Road. Sushi House will open its seventh location this spring at 950 Warren Ave.

A local sushi chain is set to open its seventh location this spring in downtown Downers Grove. Sushi House, a Japanese restaurant and sushi bar, will open at 950 Warren Ave. in the site formerly occupied by 2 Toots Train Whistle Grill. The strip mall also houses Scarletti's Italian Kitchen, Every Day's a Sundae, Zano Salon and Spa, Borrowed Earth Cafe and State Farm Insurance. The business already has five locations in Illinois—Westmont, Naperville, Wheaton, Oak Park and La Grange—and one in Leawood, KS. The original site in Westmont opened on Ogden Avenue in 1995. A new boutique is set to open its doors Friday in downtown Downers Grove. Evelyn Jane Boutique, 1008 Curtiss St., offers a collection of artisan-made women’s accessories—such as jewelry, scarves, bags and belts—as well as home décor items, including pillows, frames, wall art and candles.  The store will celebrate its grand opening from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the weekend, closing with the Downers Grove Wedding Walk on Sunday afternoon.
