The popular Downers Grove eatery has been closed since mid-July after it lost water and electricity service.
Omega Restaurant has finally made its long-awaited return to Downers Grove. The popular eatery, located at 1300 Ogden Ave., opened its doors Monday morning, nearly eight months after unpaid bills, code violations and legal troubles forced the restaurant to close its doors. The restaurant will be open from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. on weekdays and 6 a.m. to 3 a.m. on weekends—a change from its previous 24-hour service. George Andrews, the majority owner of the Omega building, took over the restaurant in July from former owners George and James Stavropoulos, who filed for bankruptcy in May, according to court documents. Andrews and the Stavropouloses became partners in 2007, but the relationship quickly deteriorated over legal and financial issues. …

The popular Downers Grove eatery has been closed since mid-July after it lost water and electricity service, but it's now hiring servers and kitchen staff.
Omega Restaurant in Downers Grove could reopen in the next month or two, according to the owner. The popular eatery, located at 1300 Ogden Ave., closed in July 2012 after a series of legal issues involving unpaid utility bills and village code violations. A sign in front of the restaurant has promised its imminent return for several months, but now the reopening is closer than ever, according to co-owner Nick Christopoulos. "We're still working through some things, getting everything up to code and making sure we're ready, but we're hoping to open in the next month or so," Christopoulos said Thursday. In anticipation of its opening, Omega is currently hiring new servers and kitchen staff. "We're accepting applications right now," …

Omega's landlord and owner of the Schaumburg location would like to re-open the Downers Grove location.
It's been made clear the owner of Omega Restaurant plans to keep restaurant's doors shut, but what about the owner of the property? George Andrews, the property owner of the long-standing Ogden Avenue restaurant and owner of the Omega Restaurant in Schaumburg, said on Thursday he plans to re-open the restaurant "as soon as possible". When asked if he had an idea of when that might be, Andrews said he wasn't sure. The village turned off Omega's water on July 17 after it failed to pay its water bill, which forced the restaurant to close. It's been closed since, and on Monday, Omega's owner Jim Stavropoulos said he wasn't going to re-open in Downers Grove, instead choosing to hopefully open a new restaurant in Schaumburg. Earlier this week, …

Jim Stavropoulos said he plans to open a new restaurant in Schaumburg, sue village of Downers Grove.
It looks like Omega won't re-open after all—in Downers Grove, anyway. Owner Jim Stavropoulos said he plans to move his business to Schaumburg—and sue the village of Downers Grove— after the village shut off Omega Restaurant’s water last week. The village turned off Omega's water on July 17 after it failed to pay its water bill, which forced the restaurant to close. A shutoff occurs after a business misses several payment deadlines, Village Communication Director Doug Kozlowski said last week. Stavropoulos said he was notified about an outstanding $8,500 water bill on May 11 that was the responsibility of a previous corporation and not his JJS Restaurant, Inc. He said he ultimately paid the bill only to be told on July 17 he had to pay …

they should concentrate on customer service and good food, not a re-opening. this is not the old omega. this place has gone downhill. the service is really awful, the food is nowhere near what it was. try the french onion soup, if you want a good laugh. its nothing but watered down beef broth with raw onions stewed in it. the stupid waitress we had today 3-27-13) said that we have to ask for what…   more ›
