SATURDAY, MAY 11 Someone took a woman's black bag with a Dell laptop, calculator and paperwork from her Cadillac outside her home on the 4700 block of Stonewall Avenue. The incident occurred sometime between 6:30 p.m. May 10 and 6:45 a.m. on this day. At about 3 p.m., a man stopped by the house to drop off the black bag containing the belongings. The man was walking his dog earlier that day and found the bag on the northwest corner of Prairie and Stonewall. He looked further inside the bag and found business cards. The woman began to walk towards Prairie from her house. One business had an upgraded car stolen, the other lost a trailer with an entire kitchen, police said.
Two businesses in Downers Grove reported two separate incidents of theft worth more than $20,000 each, according to police. A business on the 2500 block of Ogden Avenue reported a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer stolen worth $20,000. The other business, located on the 1300 block of Butterfield Road, reported a stolen trailer with a disassembled kitchen worth more than $30,000, according to police. Both thefts were reported May 10, but the Butterfield Road theft took place between Jan. 15 and Jan. 31, a police report said. "Due to a miscommunication amongst the six partners … the trailer was gone for several months before being noticed," the report said. Two men were arrested during an investigation of a Downers Grove apartment that reeked of marijuana and had a surveillance camera outside, according to police. Jermaine J. Barfield, 36, of the first block of Swinford Court, Bolingbrook, was charged with possession of cannabis under 30 grams. The apartment's lease holder, Timothy M. Hunt, 49, of the 6000 block of Ross Drive, Woodridge, was charged with attempted obstructing justice. Two Downers Grove detectives visited the apartment, located on the 2000 block of Prentiss Drive, at 2:57 p.m. May 6. The incident occurred sometime between midnight and 7 a.m. "(The owner) advised me that the offender left ash from a cigarette in the cup holder and that her vehicle smelled like smoke, despite no one in her family smoking," the report for this incident said. SUNDAY, MAY 5 A suspect might have used a couple's wooden storage shed as a hideout spot while police were looking for him, according to a report. Downers Grove police were in pursuit of the suspect on the 1500 block of Ogden Avenue at about 3:30 p.m. May 4, but could not find him. At 12:47 p.m. the next day, an officer responded to the 1500 block of Janet for a criminal damage to property report. The owner's shed door was hanging from its hinges when she returned home from church. The owner had been outside shortly before the May 4 foot pursuit. A limo driver was temporarily detained by Downers Grove police while they checked out a report of a man with a gun. Officers at about 12:30 p.m. May 6 conducted a high-risk traffic stop of the driver's white Lincoln MKT limo on the 4500 block of Middaugh Avenue. The driver was cooperative as he exited the vehicle and was placed in the back of a squad car. Police searched the vehicle and found a disassembled airsoft gun in a bag behind the front passenger seat. Filing tools were located on the passenger seat.
