Readers can share their Christmas tree memories, share photos and discuss which style of tree they prefer in their home this season.
A funny thing begins to happen around town the first weekend after Thanksgiving. Suddenly, tightly wrapped trees are being strapped to the roofs of family cars with bungy cords and driven home. Soon, these will be set up in the living room, wrapped in lights (once untangled of course), and decked with colored balls, pre-school-era ornaments, tinsel, or just about anything else these days. Tell us what you decorate your tree with in comments below. But not every family goes through the motions of picking up their tree at a nearby lot, or heading out to the farm to cut one down. Instead, they simply head up to the attic to dust off the same one they used last year. To go real, or fake: that's the question. Personally, I love a real tree. The…

An institution in Downers Grove for 37 years, the future of Omega is uncertain.
The future of Omega Restaurant is unknown. Closed last week for failure to pay its water bill, the Downers Grove staple has sat closed since. The owner has plans to re-open, but disputes with the village over water bills and a lawsuit against ComEd concerning outstanding bills makes it difficult to pinpoint when, or if, Omega will re-open. If it doesn't re-open, would that upset you? Just about everyone has eaten there in their life, and there's no denying its place in Downers Grove history. Would you be sad to see it go, or do you not care? Answer the poll below and share any further opinions you have with us in the comment section.

A Tony Cesare column on the tendency to become helicopter parents invokes the question: Do you feel safe?
This week's Tony Cesare column is about helicopter parenting and the perception of safety. In his column, Tony writes that he doesn't think things are more dangerous now than they used to be when he was a kid. Instead, he thinks our attitudes and perceptions about safety have changed, creating a false sense of danger at times. So, when thinking about safety as it relates to living, working or relaxing in Downers Grove, do you feel safe? Answer the poll question below and share your opinions in the comment section.

It's the day after a holiday...are you working?
It's an odd year for the 4th of July, falling right in the middle of the week and throwing everything off. If it falls on a Tuesday, you might assume Monday and Tuesday are treated like a holiday. If it's on a Thursday, you assume it'll be a four-day weekend. But Wednesday? Weird. Did you just get Wednesday off of work, or did you get Tuesday/Wednesday or maybe Wednesday/Thursday? Vote in the poll below and tell us if you're working today, the 5th of July. And if you had a weird work schedule this week, tell us about it in the comments.

Rotary GroveFest is in the books, and with four days of events connected to the fest, I'm curious as to whether our readers ventured downtown for it or not. Last week, I asked our readers if they planned on attending, and out of 76 votes, 40 people said they were not planning on going. Did they change their mind or hold strong? Let's find out! Answer the poll below and share your opinions in the comments section.

What do you think the reason was?
While certain residents rejoice over the withdrawn Walgreens petition, one question remains: Why did the developer withdraw the petition? Unfortunately, finding an answer to that question is proving difficult. The developer, Draper and Kramer, haven't been returning phone calls. Their attorney on the matter, David Shaw, said they didn't tell him why they were withdrawing the petition. And the village? They found out on Monday like everyone else, mere days after a neighborhood meeting in which David Fieldman and village staff presented concerned citizens with various site adjustments, including plans for a median on Woodward just north of the Walgreens site. “Information is a little difficult to come by in this realm,” village …
