The Downers Grove homeowner let one man into his home, but then spotted another near the bedrooms. Here's what happened.
Two men, one pretending to be from ComEd, gained access to a northwest side Downers Grove home where $3,530 worth of jewelry and coins went missing, police said. The homeowner reported the burglary at 1:38 p.m. March 5, right after it occurred. The items taken included two gold bracelets worth $150 and $200, a $30 silver necklace, six gold coins worth $2,000, a $500 ruby or diamond ring and miscellaneous jewelry worth $650. The man claiming that he worked for ComEd just showed up at the homeowner's door, located on the 3500 block of Saratoga Avenue. THURSDAY, JAN. 17 A home in the 4600 block of Drendel Road was burglarized sometime between 5:30 a.m. and 3:38 p.m., police said. When the homeowner returned home from work, she discovered the front door was pried open and the master bedroom disturbed, prompting her to call 911. When police arrived, they found several 1/4-inch pry marks on the outside of the door near the dead bolt and door knob lock, according to reports. The offenders went through drawers and jewelry boxes in several bedrooms, police said. The vehicle in the garage had its glove box open and was ransacked, according to reports. FRIDAY, JAN. 4 A home for sale in the 5500 block of Middaugh Avenue was burglarized sometime between Dec. 17 and Jan. 4, police said. The contractor told police he had not been to the house for several weeks due to the holiday season. When he arrived Jan. 4 to check the water pipes, he noticed the overhead garage door was open several inches, police said. The homeowner told police the following items were stolen during the burglary: The total value of the stolen items was about $12,820, police said. The Downers Grove resident was found with a ring that was reported stolen during a timeframe in which she was was inside the Madison Street home.
Jewelry taken from a Hinsdale home last month was found during a Dec. 6 traffic stop involving a Downers Grove teen, Hinsdale police said. Rebecca J. Labelle, 18, of the 7900 bock of Woodglenn Lane, was charged with residential burglary and criminal trespassing, police said. The jewelry went missing from the home in November while Labelle was a guest, police said. Labelle, an acquaintance of the victimized homeowner’s child, was one of two guests inside a home in the 10 block of South Madison Street between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. Nov. 9, police said. WEDNESDAY, NOV. 28 Officers responded to a PADS shelter in the 1000 block of Maple Avenue around 6:21 a.m. for a theft report, police said. The victim, who had stayed at the shelter overnight, told police her keys, debit card and driver's license were missing, and that she believed another woman at the shelter stole them. The suspect was questioned and searched, but the items were not located, police said. TUESDAY, NOV. 27 A home was burglarized in the 6000 block of Washington Street around 3:13 p.m., police said. SUNDAY, NOV. 18 A house was burglarized in the 900 block of 63rd Street in Downers Grove sometime between 7 p.m. on Nov. 17 and 4:15 a.m. on Nov. 18, police said. A man called police to his home just after 5 a.m., when he returned from a concert and noticed the blinds to one of his living room windows was in disarray. The man told officers he noticed a damaged window screen on the living room floor, police said. The window itself was wide open, leading the man to believe someone broke in, police said. TUESDAY, OCT. 2 Downers Grove police were called to a home in the 4700 block of Stonewall Avenue around 6:48 a.m. for a burglary report. The victim told police he and his wife were woken up around 2:49 a.m. by their dog barking. They got up and turned on the exterior house lights, but didn't see anything. At 3 a.m., the dog began barking again, so the victim went downstairs to the lower level family room. Christopher G. Forzley and Jacob G. Carpenter were charged Tuesday with felony counts of burglary and residential burglary, according to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office.
Two Lemont teens were charged Tuesday with burglarizing a home in unincorporated Downers Grove, according to the DuPage County Sheriff's Office. Christopher G. Forzley, 17, of the 19W600 block of Hillcrest Drive, and Jacob G. Carpenter, 18, of the 800 block of Main Street, were each charged with one count of residential burglary, a Class 1 felony, and one count of burglary, a Class 2 felony, police said. Police said they received a call around 5 a.m. Tuesday of a possible residential burglary near Farmingdale Village, located south of 87th Street and east of I-355 in unincorporated Downers Grove. Hope they catch the thief! Tip for the future; get anti-theft security software like devicetrack.net installed on your laptop. It would have let you track it down yourself and have the cops get it for you. Last time I checked, the cops don't charge for property recoveries.   more ›
