Sandack: Dixon Comptroller Embezzlement Highlights Need for Local Transparency

Spotlighting the Rita Crundwell incident, in which $53 million was embezzled from a city’s coffers, the Downers Grove state representative is pushing for new transparency legislation.

Citing the Rida Crundwell case—in which a Dixon, Ill. comptroller embezzled about $53 million over 22 years from the city—State Rep. Ron Sandack (R-Downers Grove) is pushing for Illinois to pass his Taxpayer Accountability Transparency Act, which he says will help prevent further such abuses by opening local government to public scrutiny. “While most news outlets focused on the accused’s extravagant lifestyle and lavish hobbies, the more concerning story to me was how did this happen and how do we protect taxpayers in the future,” Sandack writes in a post on Reboot Illinois. “Transparency serves as a sort of disinfectant to graft, corruption and fraud. The more access the public has to information, the more responsible government will be…

Lawmakers Talk Pension Reform at District 58 Legislative Breakfast

Congressman Bill Foster (D-11th) and State Reps. Ron Sandack (R-Downers Grove) and Patti Bellock (R-Hinsdale) fielded a series of questions Friday from the District 58 Legislative Committee.

Illinois lawmakers pledged their commitment to tackling pension reform and eliminating unfunded mandates Friday during the annual legislative breakfast hosted by Downers Grove Grade School District 58. The annual breakfast—hosted by the District 58 Legislative Committee—was held at O'Neill Middle School, where district officials, school board members, parents and community leaders gathered to hear from local legislators about issues facing the state and its school districts. Attending this year’s breakfast were Congressman Bill Foster (D-11) and State Reps. Ron Sandack (R-Downers Grove) and Patti Bellock (R-Hinsdale). The panel answered questions on Illinois' budget challenges and their commitment to education, as well as the urgent need …

I think all able, working people should leave the state and let the welfare recipients and illegal immigrants cover the bloated union pensions. Those three groups all vote the same, I'm sure they'll be more than happy to help each other out.   more ›

Sandack, Cross Unveil New Government Transparency Initiatives

State Representatives Ron Sandack (R-Downers Grove) and Tom Cross (R-Oswego) have introduced three pieces of legislation that would require local governments to be more transparent and accountable to tax payers.

Two local legislators are introducing legislation that would require more transparency from local governments and taxing bodies. Last week, State Representatives Ron Sandack (R-Downers Grove) and Tom Cross (R-Oswego) introduced three initiatives with the goal of greater transparency and state and local government accountability to tax payers.  “With all the well-documented fiscal problems Illinois faces, there are some easy things we can do to increase government transparency and save taxpayer money,” Sandack said in a news release. The goal of the legislation is to provide every property taxpayer with an annual itemized breakdown of the spending outlays they are billed for to support units of local government; including school districts, …

Sandack, Experts Talk Pensions at Downers Grove Chamber Event

A panel of experts gathered in Woodridge on Wednesday to talk about potential fixes for Illinois' pension woes.

When it comes to state pensions, Illinois is in a financial hole as deep as $90 billion and digging out will be a formidable task, according to a panel of west suburban experts who met this week to discuss the issue. The Downers Grove Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted a panel of experts Wednesday at Seven Bridges Golf Club in Woodridge to discuss how Illinois got in the state-pension hole and what it might take to get out. "Pensions have created the majority of the problem in our non-discretionary spending," said Lee Daniels, former speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives and now a Distinguished Fellow and Special Assistant to the President of Elmhurst College. Daniels moderated the discussion with a panel of experts …

Sen. Ron Sandack Named 'Champion of Free Enterprise' by Illinois Chamber of Commerce

State Sen. Ron Sandack (R-Downers Grove) was also recognized as the outstanding freshman of the Senate.

State Sen. Ron Sandack (R-Downers Grove) has been named a “Champion of Free Enterprise” by the Illinois Chamber of Commerce. Every two years, the Illinois Chamber of Commerce recognizes legislators who have made "special contributions in the defense of free enterprise and the promotion of economic opportunities for people in Illinois," chamber officials said. To select the honorees, the chamber rates each legislator’s vote on what the chamber has designated as key business legislation. Legislators that receive an average rating of 85 percent or better are declared a Champion of Free Enterprise, according to a news release. The Illinois Chamber also recognized Sandack as the outstanding freshman of the Senate, chamber officials said. …

Sandack: 81st House Race 'Way Closer' than Expected

Current State Sen. Ron Sandack took 54 percent of the vote in Tuesday's primary election.

Ron Sandack won the Republican nomination for the 81st House District Tuesday night, defeating Debbie Boyle with 54 percent of the vote.  No Democratic candidates were on the primary ballot, so Sandack will run unopposed in the November general election unless the Democrats appoint a candidate. Sandack currently serves as a state senator for the 21st district, having been appointed last fall to replace Dan Cronin, who was elected DuPage County Board Chairman. The 81st district is newly created and constitutes half of the previous 47th district. It includes parts of Downers Grove, Darien, Lisle, Woodridge, Westmont and Naperville. Patricia Bellock, who currently serves the 47th district, has decided not to run for the 81st, so there is no …

Ron Sandack: Debbie Boyle 'Nowhere to be Found'

Sandack announced on Thursday five more endorsements he has received.

ABATE of Illinois, the Illinois State Rifle Association, the Illinois Center Right Coalition, the Tooling and Manufacturing Association and Family PAC have all endorsed Ron Sandack as state representative for the 81st House District. “Endorsements are informative to the voters because they indicate to the public that a candidate has substance and understands the important issues facing us today," Sandack said in a press release. "I am honored to have received many endorsements in my campaign to become the next representative for the 81st District, and I have worked hard for each and every one of them. Through my track record as Mayor of Downers Grove and in my short time as an appointed State Senator, I have proven to be unafraid to vote …
