Get ready for a busy weekend of festivities!
Community takes center stage this weekend as the Rotary Club of Downers Grove's Rotary GroveFest gets started on Thursday night. Between 25,000 and 35,000 people are expected to come through the fest on a daily basis throughout the weekend, which features carnival rides, musical acts, various markets and other forms of entertainment. “We're calling it a true community event,” said incoming Rotary Club president Kent Ebersold. “In the past [the fest] has been marketed throughout Chicago and the 'burbs and this year we're really enjoying its laid back, 'All about Downers Grove' feel.” To that end, the 50+ member club is still in need of volunteers for Sunday night, so if you'd like to fill one of the weekend's 240 volunteer shifts, sign up …

Rotary Club of Downers Grove says the three-day festival will be bigger and better this year.
With the inaugural event from last year under their belts and the support and enthusiasm of the community behind them, the Rotary Club of Downers Grove is ready to present a summer festival that is bigger and better. Rotary GroveFest will be held in downtown Downers Grove on tonight through Sunday. “We are sure that this year, everybody is going to enjoy the event,” said Keith Hoffman, a Rotarian and a coordinator of the event. The Rotary Club took the lead on the event after the Village of Downers Grove determined that it could no longer afford to sponsor the annual Heritage Fest. “Our board of directors had a meeting, and we looked at this as an opportunity to do two things. We usually attend, but our schedule didn't permit it this year. Whether it was the back-in-the-day Heritage Fest or the more current Rotary GroveFest, we've enjoyed our visits over the last many years. I'm happy that the Rotary had the desire and funds to step in and help continue this great village tradition for our community. It is a fun, community celebration.   more ›
