From Amy Poehler to M&Ms, Super Bowl Sunday delivered plenty of laughs. But what ad reigned supreme?
The Baltimore Ravens may have been the big winners Sunday, but one question remains: What was the best Super Bowl commercial of 2013? This year's ads featured plenty of Super Bowl Sunday staples—beer, cars, Doritos, M&Ms and a bunch of celebrities (Stevie Wonder, Amy Poehler, Seth Rogan and Paul Rudd, to name a few). The Washington Post reports that CBS charged $3.8 million to $4 million for a 30-second spot during Sunday's game, which was expected to attract more than 100 million fans. Sixty-two percent of American adults will celebrate Valentine’s Day, says History.com. According to History.com computations, men spend an average of $150 for this celebration; women spend $74. So it seems that some thought has to go into the gift-giving aspect of the day. There are the flowers-and-candy gift-givers, the romantic dinner people and the I-don’t-have-a-clue-what-to-get group. Social media networks were set aflutter with the hint that Matthew Broderick may be reprising his Ferris Bueller role in a Super Bowl ad on Feb. 5. “How can I handle work on a day like today?” he says in the opening frame. With less than a week before the big game, commercials are a hot topic, along with whether Eli Manning or Tom Brady will be the hero of Super Bowl XVLI. According to businessinsider.com, 2012 will go down as a banner year for the event. The top price NBC got for an ad is $4 million, and on average, the network sold 30-second spots for $3.5 million each. Just about everyone has a favorite Super Bowl commercial.
