Downers Grove Man Faces Up to 3 Years in Prison for Impersonating Cop

A Downers Grove man is facing up to three years in prison for falsely claiming to be a U.S. Marshal while trying to open a bank account with a $3.5 million check, court records show. John C. Campbell, 30, of the 2500 block of Ogden Avenue, pleaded guilty Tuesday to false personation of a peace officer in November 2011, according to court records. Campbell was arrested by Lisle police after attempting to open an account at U.S. Bank, 1026 Ogden Ave., using a fraudulent $3.5 million check and falsely claiming to be a U.S. Marshal, authorities said.
