Postal Service Reverses Decision to End Saturday Delivery

The United States Postal Service is now desperately looking for ways to check huge financial losses.

Despite prior claims, the United States Postal Service will not be ending Saturday delivery.  The decision was initially made to curb massive financial losses, but “Congress has prohibited” it, according to a statement on the USPS website. Now, the USPS is left scrambling to find ways to interrupt losses that amounted to $15.9 billion last year, the Washington Post reports. Possible solutions include raising postage rates and asking Congress for legislative support. That's fine, if UPS and FedEx also only delivers every other day. But, what you are doing is forcing people who expect 2 day delivery to move up to overnight delivery, if they guess wrong as to which day a letter gets delivered, or there is a hiccup in the system. Think the Cost of Everything is Going Up? Add Mailing Costs to the List

While it will only cost a penny more to mail a letter, shipping is a different story.

New cars, health insurance, electronics, college tuition—all of these things are expected to cost consumers more in 2013, according to USnews.com. We're even going to be paying up to 4 percent more for groceries. And, and you can now add the cost of mailing a letter or package to the list of increases this month. While a regular letter or post card will only cost a penny more, rates to ship some packages are going up 6 percent. According to a press release from the U.S. Postal Service, beginning on Jan. 27, it will cost 46 cents, a penny more than last year, to mail a 1 ounce, First Class letter to any location in the United States. Holiday 2012: Postal Service Mail By Dates to Remember; Sunday Post Office Hours

The US Postal Service anticipates this will be its busiest holiday shipping season. Find out when items should be mailed by and where you can mail items on select Sundays in December.

The holiday rush is about to set in. Along with waiting in line to buy gifts at stores, the lines can be even longer at the post office as gift givers mail cards and packages to friends and family across the county and world. To accommodate the holiday rush, several DuPage County post offices will be open every Sunday prior to Christmas. The post office at 757 DuPage Blvd. in Glen Ellyn will be open on Dec. 2, 9 and 16 from noon to 4 p.m. In addition to the Glen Ellyn location, the post office at 122 N. Wheaton, in Wheaton, will be open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Lombard Post Office at 380 St. Charles Road will also be open from noon to 4 p.m. The USPS is anticipating this will be its biggest holiday season in its 237-year history. Santa Will Reply to Letters from Children in Downers Grove

Thanks to a very special U.S. Postal Service program, "Santa" will reply to children who mail him their Christmas wish lists this holiday season.

Every year, millions of children sit down to make a wish list for Santa, hoping he will make all of their Christmas dreams come true. But what if Santa actually wrote back? The United States Postal Service is now accepting "Letters From Santa," a program that allows parents and caregivers to play Santa by sending a letter signed by Saint Nick to a child. According to a postal service news release, "The 'Letters From Santa' program helps parents fulfill the dreams of their own children."
